I Began Replacing
The Interior Carpet and Seat Covers
On My
1974 Corvette Coupe
What follows are pictures showing most of the project.
What was under the drivers seat. Not terrible but dirty and discolored.
During the fall my side of the car was very hot. My wife never complained
about heat on her side. After pulling the carpet up I may have
found out why. Her side had insulation under the carpet and my
side had none.
Arm Rest is cracked on the top and will need replaced. As will the seat belts.
Got the wood grain insert out and here is the AC/Heat controler.
The orange wire broke off of the Cig. Lighter.
Looks like Bubba replaced the front speakers and had to fill up space with sheet metal.
Old Carpet
Here is the only supprise so far. See the rectangle cut-out just above the
rear of the tunnel? Looks like someone went in and cut out an access port.
Appears like they cut through the flat and also through an "I" type brace
behind the sheet.
Here is what the access port provides access to. I have no idea what it is. There
are 2 pieces of 1 x 4's with a piece of sheet metal screwed on top. All of this
is screwed to the tunnel. The orange wire goes to an electrical device (Coil?)
There is also another wire with a fuse holder coming out of the device. Neither of
the wires are hooked to anything.

Here is the coil (????) or whatever, that is mounted on the side of the board. Neither wire
is connected to anything. The hole in the panel looks like a radio or some
such device could mount here. There was no hole cut in the carpet. So was the carpet
replaced sometime after the hole was cut.?
Another shot of the access hole.
All the parts that were removed on the floor and a table.
End of Day December 20. I have the old interior removed and
am now waiting on delivery of the carpet from Wilcox.
Tomorrow I will begin putting in the Reflextix heat/sound barrier and some Jute also.
