1974 Corvet Seat Repair
October, 2005
Both seats in my '74 leaned back way too far. The PO had tried using
2 x 4's to help hold the seat up. That wasn't working. The adjustable bolts
would not move. Rusted tight.
After pulling the seats out and turning them over it was obvious what the problem was.
Broken spots on the frame. The following pictures show the breaks.
I pulled the seat covers and foam back far enough that the heat from
welding wouldn't cause any more problems. I also kept damp rags over the area
around where I was welding.
I was also able to break the adjusting bolts loose and they worked fine
after the welds were made. Seats sit fine now. Gonna get new foam
and covers over winter. (2005)
